1. The iconic ‘Ambassador’ set to make a comeback! Hindustan Motors planning an electric rebirth.
Hindustan Motors could soon bring back the beloved ‘Ambassador’ in an electric form. A news report featuring a possible tie-up between HM & French automaker ‘Peugeot’ has fuelled these rumours. The HM Ambassador, also affectionately called ‘Amby’, was born in 1958 and served the nation till 2014.
The company plans to re-enter the Indian auto market jointly with Peugeot. The collaboration will aim at launching an electric scooter first and following it up with the electrified Ambassador.
2. Tripura unveils its EV Policy. Becomes the 15th Indian state to do so.
Joining the band of multiple Indian states with dedicated EV policies, Tripura has launched its own Electric Vehicle promotion policy. Tripura becomes the 15th state to adopt an electric vehicle policy and the 3rd in northeast after Assam & Meghalaya. The policy is officially titled the ‘Tripura Electric Vehicle Policy 2022’.
The state has planned to convert 10% of the total vehicles to electric within the next 5 years.
Electric 3-wheelers like e-rickshaws & e-autos are very popular and ply in large numbers in Tripura’s capital Agartala and other towns. Even before the state’s EV policy was launched, Niti Aayog had lauded Tripura for EV penetration.
3. EV charging aggregator ‘ElectricPe’ joins hands with EV retailer ‘Electric One’.
To expand its charging infrastructure in Bangalore and other parts of India, ElectricPe has tied-up with Electric One, India’s largest EV retail chain that has 82 stores across the country.
ElectricPe has multiple EV chargers and a demand generation app that offers EV users a one-stop platform where they can identify, access & pay for EV charging points to make e-mobility easier.
The partnership would be executed in a phased manner, starting with Bangalore. As part of the partnership, Electric One customers across 82 stores in India would get access to ElectricPe’s EV platform.
4. NTPC invites bids for supply of EV chargers.
NTPC has issued a tender for the supply of EV chargers for public charging under the FAME-II scheme.
The tender includes manufacturing or sourcing, testing, inspection, supply, installation & commissioning of 1670 EV chargers across Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
The scope of work also includes providing 3 years of comprehensive on-site warranty for all chargers and an additional 7 years of comprehensive on-site maintenance services for all the chargers except Bharat AC-001 & Bharat DC-001 chargers. The last day to submit the application is June 8, 2022.
5. Chief Minister of Meghalaya adds an electric car to his fleet.
The CM of Meghalaya Shri Conrad Sangma has added an electric car- the MG ZS EV, to his official fleet. The white-colored EV has a special registration number: ‘0001’. The Chief Minister shared this news on his instagram account and wrote, “Shifting to clean energy: the future. In Shillong I am using an electric vehicle and it’s amazing. I urge our citizens to also shift to EVs. Cost is approx Rs.20 lakh, but lifetime no cost for fuel; huge savings.”
MG Motors India will soon launch a smaller and more affordable electric car that will be priced around Rs.10 lakh.
