Electric Vehicles Charging Hubs in India
Electric vehicles are taking over the world's highways. The enormous popularity of these vehicles has compelled governments to reward those who are adapting to the change. In addition to this order, the Government of India has shown its appreciation to electric vehicle buyers by establishing charging stations in various parts of the country.
Creating an EV friendly environment
The government and the users have realized the importance of these electric vehicles in these difficult times. For making it more comfortable for electric vehicle users, the government has taken numerous steps. One of these is the installation of electric vehicle charging stations in different parts of the country. For covering a vast and diverse country like India, it is necessary to move ahead with a plan. This plan should be well structured and executed in a form that doesn't hinder the other operations of the country.
Installation of charging stations in phases
For the better and flexible coverage of the region, the process of installation got implemented in phases. These phases were called FAME.
FAME-I
- Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles in India (FAME-India) Scheme - FAME I
- This phase marked the commencement of the process.
- In this phase, the states included - Karnataka, Rajasthan, New Delhi, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Telangana.
- About 314 charging stations got deployed in this phase, according to the government authorities.
FAME-II
- Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and EV (FAME) II
- This phase witnessed the continuation of the procedure of installation of charging stations in the country.
- Kerala, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, etc., were the regions taken into account in this phase.
- It was the phase that witnessed the installation of about 2,867 stations, an impressive increase in contrast to the work done in FAME-I.
After the conclusion of the phases, the states which emerged as the leaders were:
No. 1 - Maharashtra ( 317 charging stations),
No. 2 - Gujarat ( 278 charging stations) and
No. 3 - Andhra Pradesh ( 266 charging stations).
Electric Vehicle Policy of the Leaders

- Putting up about 1 lakh slow and fast charging stations by the year 2024.
- Making about 10 lakh electric vehicles, combined across all segments of logistics, by 2024.
Measures of the Policy
- Distributing separate land or space for the development of electric vehicle parks to grab the attention of manufacturing start-ups.

Ultimate Verdict
The government (both state and federal) has taken steps to promote electric vehicles in the country. Some states have been a bit better than others, on the contrary, yet to improve their measures. The road ahead for electric transports would be more comfortable and smooth when the State and Central governments work collectively. Only then, the whole nation will become a second home for electric logistics.
