Growth in the EV sector in India has been slow over the decades but it has picked up pace in the last couple of years.
India’s electric vehicles journey started with the Mahindra’s first EV name Bijlee way back in 1999. It didn’t work out as per their plan but after two decades mahindra’s all efforts got paid off.M&M today leads India’s EV journey. M&M sold 14,000+ EVs in the financial year 2019-20, a 40 per cent jump over 2018-19.After Bijlee mahindra e2o launched then followed by the e-Verito, eSupro.
M&M is a founding member of Formula E and has also launched a super-premium luxury electric vehicle in Europe called the Battista.
M&M’s upcoming plant at Chakan for EVs, will aim to supply components for global automakers and will produce a MESMA 350 powertrain with a range of 350+ kilometres for both Indian and global markets.
Mahindra recently made a big announcement about their new EV SUV400.It will be launching on 19th Jan 2023.The XUV 400 is basically the XUV 300 now adapted into an EV. Mahindra also will introduce their brand new platform Inglo.
XUV400 will compete with Tata NEXON, Tata nexon is India’s highest selling EV .Nexon was made to be an internal combustion engine machine and then adapted to become an EV.

XUV400 is 4200mm in length and with a wheelbase of 2600mm.Boot space at 378 litres is also the highest in the segment .XUV400 is nicely differentiated as an EV with a new bumper, a blanked-out grille and copper-coloured accents. The logos, the badging, and accents on the grille and bumpers are all finished in copper, which the company says is the signature colour for its EVs going forward.some additional features include Electrically Adjustable & Foldable ORVMs,Projector headlamps with LED,Electric Sunroof, Front & Rear Skid Plate,Aero-Fascia with Satin-Copper Arrowhead inserts.
Mahindra EV XUV400 Interior
The XUV400 sports an all black interior with contrast copper finishers as seen on the exterior. Feature highlights include auto AC, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment screen with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and over-the-air update support. The XUV400 will also come equipped with a single-pane sunroof The climate control console comes with blue and red temperature bars on the centre console instead of a traditional climate control display.
Some additional features include-12V charging port, Driver one touch power window,Black Leatherette Seats with Blue stitching.

XUV400 gains acceleration 0-100kmph in 8.3Secs.Powering the XUV 400 is powered with a 39.4 kWh battery pack. The motor makes an impressive 147bhp and 310 Nm of torque. Mahindra claims an ARAI-certified range of 456km.
There are three drive modes - Fun, Fast and Fearless.Fun mode is least powerful mode, throttle response is much subdued.Fast mode makes things up with immediately noticeable throttle response ,in this mode one can feel steering weight. In fearless mode , one has to be really fearless.Acceleration is strongest here.

Estimated price of the XUV400 EV is Rs.17.00 Lakh.

Charging details
Battery pack can be charged from 0-80% via a 50kW DC fast charger in just 50 minutes, while with a 7.2kW/32A outlet, it takes 6 hours 30 minutes for 0-100% charge and the same is achieved in 13 hours while using a standard 3.3 kW/16A domestic socket.

As per Mahindra ,XUV400 will stand between B and C segment, which is between Nexon EV max and MG ZS EV.Direct competitor is Tata Nexon EV.Plus points of XUV400 are more power,space and range.Mahindra promises that it will receive plenty of updates and changes by the time it is launched in Jan 2023.
