All about e-Amrit: Launch, Purpose, EV Charging Stations, Electric Vehicles, and more
India launched an electric vehicle awareness web portal named "e-Amrit Portal" on November 10, 2021. The first government-run dedicated EV portal to spread awareness about the benefits of switching to an electric vehicle was launched at the COP26 Summit in Glasgow, UK.
This EV-dedicated portal is developed and maintained by NITI Aayog, the Indian government think tank committed to achieving Sustainable Development Goals of electrification by 2030. NITI Aayog Advisor Sudhendu Jyoti Sinha and the UK High-Level Climate Action Champion Nigel Topping participated in the launch of the e-Amrit portal.
About e-Amrit Portal
The e-Amrit portal has been created to "accelerate the e-mobility revolution for India's transport". This web portal was developed by NITI Aayog in collaboration with the UK Government as a part of the India-UK Joint Roadmap, 2030.
Features of "E-Amrit" Portal
- The e-Amrit portal has been launched with the aim of creating awareness about electric mobility in India. It has been developed as a 'one-stop site' which contains all the information regarding the adoption of Electric Vehicles (EVs) in India.
- This web portal can be accessed using various devices like PC, mobile phones, screen readers, and tablets.
- This portal will help in debunking myths about EV adoption, EV subsidies, and policies. In addition, E-Amrit will strike a balance between other initiatives of the Center to raise awareness about electric vehicles and educate consumers about the benefits of using electric vehicles.
The objective of the “E-Amrit” Portal
The objective of this e-Amrit portal is to assist electric vehicle users or electric vehicle adopters in the following ways:
- Motivating people to adopt electric vehicles by providing insights on electric vehicle technologies, insurance options, types of electric vehicles, and financing options.
- Incentives to set up electric vehicles or allied enterprises by providing details on major initiatives of the Central and State Governments.
- Assessing the benefits of electric vehicles with tools designed to determine the savings of users with electric vehicles compared to petrol or diesel vehicles.
- The portal is providing all the information about the Indian Electric Vehicle market and industry.
Importance of e-Amrit Portal
The launch of the E-Amrit portal happened with the objective to boost government initiatives to create awareness among consumers about the pros and advantages of using electric vehicles. It will transform and motivate millions of consumers and stakeholders to adopt EVs by educating them about the environmental benefits of decarbonizing transportation to create an ecosystem to expand the network of electric vehicles and its infrastructure. E-Amrit is designed to meet the demand and priorities of future and early EV users, industries, and government.
What are the challenges in the adoption of electric vehicles in India?
Multiple things slow down the rate of adoption of Electric vehicles in India like the high cost of electric vehicles and their maintenance.
India needs expensive infrastructure to keep up with the growth of electric vehicles. The lack of charging stations is also an issue as people need the right charging station to charge their electric vehicles.
The lack of sustainable energy available is also putting pressure on coal-fired power plants. However, thanks to companies like Kazam EV that are striving hard to fulfill the needs of charging stations in India. and provide professional help to EV consumers' every need. Not many options available in the EV range are one of the major reasons to set back EV adoption. People are also running out of options in terms of financial help when choosing electric vehicles.
